The winery and vineyards of the “Wine Art” Estate are situated opposite Mt. Pangaion, centre of the Dionysian cult in ancient times, a place of Orphic hymns and myths. The estate is owned by two men, engineers by profession, Yiannis Papadopoulos and Yiannis Kalaitzidis.
Their history dates back to 1993, when Yiannis Papadopoulos revived, as a hobby and to satisfy a personal enthusiasm, an old family vineyard in Mikrochori, near Drama. Two years later, Yiannis Kalaitzidis joined the venture. The result was “Wine Art” Estate and the first range of products “Techni Alipias” a red, a white and a rosé wine, were introduced and immediately gained their share of the quality wines market.

“Wine Art” aims to present how well certain Greek and cosmopolitan varieties are adapted to the microclimate of Drama. Towards this direction, a new wine, “Chardonnay Idisma Drios” was put to market in 1999. This was the first of a new range of single-varietal wines, “Idisma Drios” (“sweetly oaked”), to be followed by Assyrtiko, Merlot and Syrah.
2011 was the first vintage for “Techni” Malagousia and “Tecnhi” Assyrtiko. In 2016 these two labels were renamed to “Plano” Malagousia and “Plano” Assyrtiko. The latest additions were the red “Touriga Nacional” and the rosé “Pink Bang” both produced from the famous Portuguese variety. In great vintages, the Estate also vinifies a limited quantity of Nebbiolo (Nebbio).
